The southern AVA boundary is south of Larkmead Lane and on this two lane road is its namesake historic winery, Larkmead Vineyards. Founded in the 19th century, Larkmead has legendary vineyards surrounded by the sleek white winery where classic wines are produced. This is a must-taste if you’re wanting to experience one of Napa’s benchmark Cabs.

To the east of Larkmead along the Silverado Trail, is one of the most impressive wineries in the valley – Davis Estates. Davis offers a number of tasting experiences which take place on a grand estate. The tasting room is inside a restored 1916 barn and there are 11,000 sq. ft of caves. The expansive valley views are matched by the extraordinary portfolio of wines. This is another unforgettable experience.

If you’re ready to expand your palate and discover new varietals, the next stop on your southern Calistoga tour will be an eye opener. La Sirena Winery, owned and operated by renowned winemaker Heidi Barrett, offers delightful Moscato and Rosato, as well as a smooth seven-blend red she calls Pirate TreasRed. Of course, her Cab, Grenache and a Rhone-style blend should not be missed.

Further south on Highway 29, Ballentine Vineyards offers the idyllic tasting experience from an outside terrace surrounded by their 80 acres of vineyards. Their portfolio includes a number of small production wines, all crafted on the estate. Make sure to try their widely-acclaimed reds and there’s also a delightful Chenin Blanc, one of the only ones made in the valley.
